Twenty-six people from across the Northern Beaches who have made important differences in the community were recently honoured on the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

One of the recipients was Christine Agius, who received an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for her many years of service and commitment to people with disability. The peninsula local was the executive officer of Action For People With Disability (Action) from 1999 until earlier this year.

“Christine’s absolute and unwavering determination to achieve positive outcomes for people with disability has seen her volunteer hundreds of hours for action each year.” says Action For People With Disability Inc CEO Taylor Bellomo.

“Christine was a driving force in the introduction of post-school programs for school leavers with disability in NSW. Due to the state government’s cost-cutting decision to cease all advocacy funding, Action will be closing its doors on June 30, 2020.

“Cutting advocacy funding will result in people with disability having nowhere to turn for help in a crisis. Christine is continuing to advocate tirelessly through a number of avenues, including through the NSW Disability Advocacy Alliance, to ensure this vital community organisation is not lost.”
